Visibly Better Living and Visibly Better Spaces Certification

Visibly Better Living Certification

Visibly Better Living certification is designed to provide social housing providers and care home staff with the skills and knowledge to meet the individual needs of the increasing number of residents living with sight loss. Visibly Better Living also supports social housing providers to adapt existing and new supported older living buildings to create environments that are inclusive for people with sight loss.

Visibly Better Spaces Certification

Visibly Better Spaces certification is designed to provide participating organisation’s staff with the skills and knowledge to design inclusive environments for people with sight loss either through refurbishment or in a brand-new building project. These environments include non-domestic buildings such as healthcare settings, offices and other public areas.

"We were very pleased to be able to work with the RNIB to use the Visibly Better Spaces design principles for the redesign of our Radiology waiting room. We welcomed the opportunity to ensure that our design created an environment that was accessible, calming and welcoming. I am delighted with the result and happy to note that the learning from this project was rolled out into other environments within the Health Board."

Accessible Building Design

Our publication ‘Building sight’ has been updated and it includes many of the Visibly Better inclusive design principles within it. The user-friendly format makes it an excellent working document for organisations all over the UK to design and create inclusive buildings.

"We know providing accommodation especially for older residents is more than just providing someone with a place to live…it’s about meeting individual’s needs… We know that a good internal and external environment can reduce the barriers that prevent people from living independently…this is where Visibly Better Living has really helped…"
