Live coverage of the King’s Coronation to be made accessible in TV first

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) has worked with two of the country’s biggest television channels, BBC and ITV, to ensure coverage of the Coronation of King Charles III is inclusive and accessible to the two million people living with sight loss across the UK.

RNIB parliamentary event alerts MPs to need for urgent action on cost of living

RNIB held a parliamentary drop-in event on 24 April that attracted MPs from across the House. Just under 60 MPs attended, or were represented by staff, including: Tom Pursglove MP, Minister for Disabled People; Stephen Timms MP, Chair of the Work and Pensions Select Committee; and Justin Madders MP, Shadow Minister for Employment Rights and Protections.

Children and young people with vision impairment are missing out on vital support

A new Freedom of Information (FOI) report conducted by sight loss charity, the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) in Northern Ireland, found that the majority of children and young people with vision impairment are missing out on key specialist skills training, which would enable them to access the Northern Ireland curriculum and develop their independence.

The coronation of King Charles will be an occasion to bring the country together. The coronation of King Charles III will be broadcast with live accessible commentary on the red button on BBC1 and live audio description on ITV1 on Saturday 6th of May.

Ray Salmon, age 81, has been volunteering for the last 30 years as a sooty collector for RNIB

He took up volunteering following a long successful career in banking when he took early retirement. Ray is based in South Sheffield, right on the border between South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire, about five minutes from Peak District.
