RNIB collaborates with British Vogue on first ever braille issue

Leading sight loss charity the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is collaborating with British Vogue to produce the first ever braille and audio versions of the magazine.

RNIB parliamentary event alerts MPs to need for urgent action on cost of living

RNIB held a parliamentary drop-in event on 24 April that attracted MPs from across the House. Just under 60 MPs attended, or were represented by staff, including: Tom Pursglove MP, Minister for Disabled People; Stephen Timms MP, Chair of the Work and Pensions Select Committee; and Justin Madders MP, Shadow Minister for Employment Rights and Protections.

Children and young people with vision impairment are missing out on vital support

A new Freedom of Information (FOI) report conducted by sight loss charity, the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) in Northern Ireland, found that the majority of children and young people with vision impairment are missing out on key specialist skills training, which would enable them to access the Northern Ireland curriculum and develop their independence.

The coronation of King Charles will be an occasion to bring the country together. The coronation of King Charles III will be broadcast with live accessible commentary on the red button on BBC1 and live audio description on ITV1 on Saturday 6th of May.

Ray Salmon, age 81, has been volunteering for the last 30 years as a sooty collector for RNIB

He took up volunteering following a long successful career in banking when he took early retirement. Ray is based in South Sheffield, right on the border between South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire, about five minutes from Peak District.

Race Across the World – RNIB’s Trish Sail on her trip of a lifetime

50 per cent reality game show and 50 per cent exotic travel series, the return of Race Across the World to BBC1 screens this spring has been inspiring a sense of wanderlust in many viewers. And one of the contestants attempting to hotfoot it thousands of miles across Canada is RNIB’s staff member Trish Sail. Trish works as a Community Connections Co-ordinator in the South West of England. She is no stranger to adventure and lives with sight loss.

RNIB report uncovers gaps in educational support due to lack of funding

RNIB’s new report finds that, although the number of children and young people with vision impairment (VI) is growing, local authorities in England are cutting - or freezing - the number of specialist teachers. We urgently call on Claire Coutinho MP, Minister for Children, Families and Wellbeing, to increase funding giving children and young people with VI the support they need to realise their full potential.

Muirend man Alan Stewart will mark 10 years of sight loss as he embarks on a 14 mile sponsored walk in clan tartan on Sunday, April 30th

The Kiltwalk is an annual multi-city event allowing anyone to raise funds for the charities and causes they care about. Alan, who will wear his Black Stewart tartan kilt, has chosen to raise funds in Glasgow’s Kiltwalk for national sight loss charity RNIB. It's a cause that's important to him and over 180,000 other people who have sight loss in Scotland, as well as their friends and families.
