The Voluntary Network - befriending

The Voluntary Network provide a free befriending service which matches older people suffering from loneliness with volunteers who visit the person in their own home for about an hour a week. Times and days are flexible.

Visits can provide companionship and support. Some of our clients may want to access local clubs/services with the help of the volunteer, this is purely at the volunteers discretion as the relationship progresses. Volunteers are not expected to carry out any household chores etc, however, if extra support is needed we can help in referring to a relevant organisation.

Anyone can refer a client, as long as they are:
- Over 65 years of age
- not suffering with mid-late Dementia
- not suffering with severe mental health issues

The following areas are covered:
Forest Heath: Newmarket, Brandon, Lakenheath, Mildenhall, Eriswell and the Rows.
St Edmundsbury – Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill and surrounding villages.
