Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council - Visual Impairment

The council can help anyone with a significant sight loss living in the Borough of Tameside and offers:

- assessment: a team of specialist rehabilitation and social workers who undertake a broad assessment of the practical, emotional and social needs of the individual, their families and carers.
- information
- rehabilitation skills: a fully equipped rehabilitation kitchen is available for the individual to develop daily living skills.
- low vision training, computers, braille, Moon, and mobility
- equipment: there is a large range of equipment and aids to try
- counselling support
- a range of groups: for example, an information group for newly diagnosed visually impaired people, a relaxation and meditation group, and a range of special interest and therapeutic groups
- awareness training: courses in awareness can be arranged for anyone working with visually impaired people.
