Southport Talking Newspaper

Southport Talking Newspaper is an independent registered charity (no. 519677) that offers a free service for registered blind and partially sighted people in Southport, Formby, Ormskirk and beyond. This enables them to listen to local news printed in the Southport Visiter and local news websites. Once a month they also record a magazine edition. Every week teams of readers digitally record extracts from these newspapers and then they are duplicated many times on a fast-copying machine. The memory sticks are then posted to our listeners and delivered free of charge by the Royal Mail under their ‘Articles for the Blind’ service. Listeners receive a free ‘boom box’, on loan for as long as they want our service, with which to listen to the recordings. A copy of the recording is uploaded onto "Soundcloud". Listeners can access these recordings via Soundcloud, British Wireless for the Blind Fund devices, Alexa-enabled speakers, or the BWBF “Talking Newspapers” app on Smartphones and Tablets.
