Newcastle-upon-Tyne City Council Community Health & Social Care Direct (Sensory Support Team)

The Community Health & Social Care Direct team provides a specialist service to those people suffering from visual and hearing impairment. The team maintains the authority's Register for sensory impaired people but accessing services is not dependent on Registration. They offer an open referral system although there are established patterns.

A wide range of services are available including full social work service, assessments and care planning, information and advice, rehabilitation and provision of technical equipment, braille and Moon teaching.
