Developmental Vision Clinic

The clinic aims to help babies and young children with visual impairment and their families. Regular assessments of functional vision are undertaken to advise parents on how to stimulate any vision and how to use it to the best advantage. The clinic also aims to identify aspects of development affected by visual impairment and to devise individual programmes to help families overcome any difficulties. The team works in partnership with parents and local professionals, particularly specialist teachers for the visually impaired. Referrals can be received through local hospital ophthalmologists or paediatricians from anywhere in the UK. We are pleased to see babies as young as possible as our guidance programme is designed to be started in the early months of life and be continued through the preschool years. We do also see older children if there are particular concerns about their vision, development and learning.
