How we can help you prepare for the European Accessibility Act
If you are supplying products and services to Europe, the European Accessibility Act (EAA) deadline for compliance is 28 June 2025.
The good news is that RNIB can help you work towards reaching EAA compliance for your products and services by making them more accessible for blind and partially sighted people and therefore able to reach a broader customer base. This creates opportunities for growth, innovation, and market differentiation.
The bad news is that non-compliance can result in fines, while not applying to the UK, the EAA extends to all digital products – including smartphones, ticketing machines, banking services, transportation and e-books – within the European Union. For instance, if you offered banking services in the EU, through a mobile app, then your app would need to be accessible with screen readers and voice input.
In short, you should be making preparations now if you want to be ready for the Act’s implementation in June 2025.
Accessibility audits, usability testing and more
RNIB’s consultants can perform accessibility audits and rigorous usability testing on websites, mobile applications, products and other digital assets; all tasks which will help you prepare.
We also offer a range of accessibility and usability solutions including training and provision of alternative formats for your communications including large print, easy read, braille, and audio.
As the EAA sets out accessibility requirements for certain key products and services, including digital platforms and design and manufacture of products and services, we recommend thorough inclusive design testing to ensure the needs of users are considered at every stage.
This may involve testing with automated accessibility testing tools, manual testing by RNIB’s accessibility experts and user testing with blind and partially sighted people.
Additionally, RNIB can provide training to relevant staff members on accessibility best practices, and the importance of designing products and services with inclusivity in mind.
