Volunteer Advisory Council reaches the four nations
I am Joanne Wilson, Volunteer Support Project Manager at RNIB. My role involves leading on Volunteer Engagement including managing the Volunteer Advisory Council and Project Management support in the Volunteering Team.
The Volunteer Advisory Council in RNIB has been going from strength to strength following our recent review. It has been an absolute delight to gain members on a regular basis and ensure we achieve our goal of being a representative and diverse group of volunteers.
Our membership includes volunteers from services such as Technology for Life, Talk and Support, Living Well with Sight Loss, Transcription, Campaigns, Products for Life and Organisational Development. The current members are from across the UK with volunteers joining us from Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales, and England which means for the first time we now represent all four nations!
The group advise on the volunteering experience from their perspective in both the context of meetings but also at various opportunities beyond this to join focus groups and speak at events. Recent actions have included consulting on the Cost-of-Living Crisis from a volunteer perspective, the Reward and Recognition offer for volunteers, the Festival of Volunteering and Volunteer Wellbeing. The members provide a valuable, informative voice and contribute greatly to supporting our volunteer decision making and planning in RNIB.
We would encourage any of our existing volunteers to reach out if you would like to learn more about joining the Volunteer Advisory Council. It is a fantastic opportunity to share your volunteering experience and an enriching chance for you to develop as a volunteer and engage with others from RNIB along the way.
