Statement from RNIB about the cancellation of the 2020 London Marathon
Sophie Castell, Director of Relationships at RNIB, said: “On behalf of all our Team RNIB runners, we are disappointed to hear that the 2020 London Marathon has been cancelled, but understand the decision is for the best at this time.
“Every year, the event creates an atmosphere like no other and we will miss having the opportunity to cheer our runners along the famous running route. We’re extremely grateful to our incredible runners who make up Team RNIB. We’d like to thank them for their continued support in breaking down barriers for blind and partially sighted people and look forward to welcoming them back for the 2021 London Marathon.
“RNIB will be holding a brand new event, Marathon Mates, throughout the month of September. We’d love participants of all running abilities to pair up and join us in taking on the 26.2 miles of a marathon, splitting the distance between them whilst helping to raise vital funds for people living with sight loss in the UK. For anyone interested in signing up, visit marathonmates.rnib.org.uk.”
