RNIB event to mark one year of Vision Friends project
Most of us already know that our vision can change and get worse with age, but how many of us know how to spot the signs of sight loss and offer the right kind of support?
RNIB Cymru is inviting housing and care professionals to a panel discussion that will showcase the work of it's Vision Friends project, an exciting new training initiative that offers an in-depth understanding of the needs of older people with sight loss.
The panel discussion will be hosted online on 28 June 2021. It’s an opportunity to find out about the Vision Friends toolkit and training package, hear feedback from participants and gain valuable insight into findings from the first external evaluation of the initiative since its inception in 2020.
The Welsh Government funded training is delivered in five one-hour sessions once or twice a week. It has been carefully tailored to help people identify sight loss, seek help, increase wellbeing and empower older people to be more independent. The training also offers an understanding of how small changes can improve care and support.
RNIB Cymru has already successfully delivered Vision Friends training to its partners at Trivallis and Cardiff Council.
Christopher Thomas, Safeguarding and Service Standards Coordinator for Trivallis, said: “Our work with the Vision Friends project has helped consolidate and build upon the work we have done with the RNIB Visibly Better Standards throughout the years. The training was comprehensive and enlightening and has given our team the essential skills and insight needed to best support our clients with sight loss."
