Blind content creator and disability advocate Claire Sisk announced as RNIB Ambassador

The Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) is delighted to announce blind content creator Claire Sisk as the charity’s latest ambassador.

Claire Sisk’s sight loss journey began after experiencing two strokes in 2009 Shortly after her second stroke, she started to notice changes in her vision and was diagnosed with cone-rod dystrophy, a condition that affects the rods and cone in the eyes. Since then, Claire has also been diagnosed with Best Vitelliform Macular Dystrophy (BVMD) and macular degeneration.

To educate and break the stigma around sight loss, Claire, 44, from Hertfordshire, began to share daily content on her @CanSeeCantSee pages across TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook – receiving millions of views and sparking important conversations with her followers about living with sight loss.

Claire said: “My sight loss was sudden, it was life-changing, but it’s part of my story, and I’m here to raise awareness and share my journey. And that’s why being an RNIB Ambassador is really meaningful to me. It’s not just about raising awareness; it’s about using my voice to make a difference for those of us living with sight loss. I know first-hand the challenges that come with it, from the emotions to the everyday struggles of navigating a world that isn’t designed for us.

“As an RNIB ambassador, I’ve got the opportunity to advocate for better accessibility, more understanding, and a society where inclusion isn’t just a buzzword, but a reality for everyone with sight loss.

“Being part of RNIB will allow me to connect with others on this journey and fight for a world where we all have the tools, resources, and opportunities we need to thrive. I want to show that sight loss doesn’t define us, it’s just part of our story.”

Over the years, Claire has supported RNIB’s work and is also the co-host for The Happy Show on RNIB Connect Radio on every Monday from 1pm. With a focus on sight loss, the show is an hourly mix of chat, music, mental health, mindfulness, and overall wellbeing.

Vivienne Francis, RNIB’s Chief Social Change Officer, said: “We’re delighted that Claire is coming onboard as an official RNIB Ambassador. We need to drive a new conversation around sight loss – and Claire has been at the forefront of this, using her social media platforms to encourage change and inclusion. Claire has an incredible way of engaging with people and raising awareness about the challenges blind and partially sighted people face by sharing her lived experience. RNIB is grateful for Claire’s support and excited to continue working together to advocate for inclusion and accessibility for people with sight loss.”

About RNIB

We are the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).

Every six minutes, someone in the UK begins to lose their sight. RNIB is taking a stand against exclusion, inequality and isolation to create a world without barriers where people with sight loss can lead full lives. A different world where society values blind and partially sighted people not for the disabilities they’ve overcome, but for the people they are.
