Blind and partially sighted volunteers put their stamp on fundraising appeal
A group of blind and partially sighted crafters came together on Thursday to create a huge Christmas collage—entirely made of stamps.
The eight volunteers recreated a festive scene from one of last year’s first-class Christmas stamps, using over 2,000 stamps of different colours from across the world. The art piece was designed by partially sighted crafter Sian Healey, who also coordinated the volunteers on the day.
The stamps used in the project were part of a donation from the Rowcliffe family from Pencader, who donated over half a million stamps to the RNIB Stamp Appeal earlier this year.
The project aims to raise awareness of our Stamp Appeal in the run up to the Christmas period. The Stamp Appeal is an easy, fun way to raise vital funds for RNIB without spending a penny.
Sian Healey said: “The Stamp Appeal Art Attack was a great success, and we are delighted with the end result. It took six hours to put together but everyone had a great time. Sighted volunteers were on hand to help those with less vision to get involved, and there was a wonderful spirit of collaboration during the whole day.
“Crafting is such a great way to get out and about, meet new people and have fun. It goes to show that people of all ability levels can come together and create art.
“The Stamp Appeal is a fantastically festive way to raise funds and awareness for RNIB Cymru, which helps to make a real difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people across Wales. We would like to encourage as many people as possible to save their stamps this Christmas and donate them to a worthy cause. Every stamp counts!”
