A blog from the Director of RNIB Cymru, Ansley Workman
As the Director of RNIB Cymru I want to reassure the blind and partially sighted community and their supporters that RNIB is continuing to provide services and support for people with sight loss across the UK and in Wales.
Our Living with sight loss page provides practical information and advice as well as emotional support.
Our website is being continually updated as we get new information and as we change our services to meet the new world that we’re in.
We want to help address the fact that people may be feeling very isolated at the moment. We already have several groups set up in Wales and that’s increasing as people contact us and there are groups across the UK. Our Talk and Support groups are a great way to connect with other people, both for one to one support and to find out how other people are coping. In Wales we also have specific groups for Welsh speakers.
It’s also important to know that we are working with and challenging the Welsh Government to make sure that people with sight loss have got the information that they need in accessible formats. We are also speaking up about some of the most pressing issues that people are telling us about, from how to self-isolate safely to guiding, but also about access to foods and medicines.
RNIB Cymru is working very closely with Public Health Wales to make sure we can get these essential public health messages across in accessible formats.
Our Helpline number is 0303 123 9999. We have extended our service and our opening hours from 8am to 8pm on weekdays from 9am to 5pm on Saturdays.
Please do get in contact, don’t feel like you’re on your own. There’s certainly plenty of things we can do in terms of providing advice, information and support.
