Borders Councillors Experience Street Hazards Facing Blind Residents
A group of Scottish Borders Councillors tried to navigate around obstacles and clutter on the streets in Kelso, wearing spectacles that mimic different sight loss conditions. The exercise was arranged by national charity RNIB Scotland in a bid to demonstrate the problems that blind and partially sighted residents experience when confronted with advertising boards, bollards, cycle racks and café furniture.
MSPs mark National Eye Health Week
RNIB Scotland are marking National Eye Health Week 2023 by encouraging MSPs to visit their local optometrists for their free eye exam. Taking part so far are MSPs Stuart McMillan, Jeremy Balfour, Michael Marra, and Colin Smyth, who each visited their local optometry practices this week. National Eye Health Week takes place from 18 to 24 September 2023 and highlights the importance of good eye health and the need for regular eye tests for all.

Two fundraisers take on a 20-mile sponsored walk on behalf of young people with sight loss
This August on Sunday 20, two fundraisers take on a 20-mile sponsored walk. The Kiltwalk is an annual multi-city event allowing anyone to raise funds for the charities and causes they care about. Reece Watt (24) and Anna MacKenzie (48) will be embarking on the Dundee Kiltwalk to raise funds for Haggeye, a young persons’ campaign forum organised by national sight loss charity, RNIB Scotland.
