Cyreeta’s story: Discovering new motivation for movement
It took a lot of courage for Cyreeta to start her running journey.
She was diagnosed with Stargardt disease as a child, and after losing her central vision in her 20s, she’d lost all confidence. But the birth of her child and a new job gave her fresh determination. Cyreeta finally worked up the courage to download the Couch to 5K on her phone, a free app which trains people to graduate slowly from walking to running. Now, her confidence knows no bounds. This is her story.

How to start your running journey
Running is something that everyone can get involved in, no matter what level of sight you have.
You can start by going for walk or like Cyreeta, you might want to use the Couch to 5k app or similar, to help you on your way.
If you feel confident, you can get out and go for a walk or a run. However there are also guides available, if you want some extra support at the start of your running journey.
Whether it’s a light stroll on your own or with a friend, or a more intense jog, it will help you get moving and improve your fitness. You can use it as a chance to catch up with some friends or set small goals to challenge yourself.
