Set in the Yukon during the 1890s Klondike Gold Rush, a period in which strong sled dogs were in high demand. Buck, a domesticated dog living at a ranch in the Santa Clara Valley of California as the story opens, is stolen from his home and sold into service as sled dog in Alaska and reverts to a wild state. Buck is forced to fight in order to dominate other dogs in a harsh climate.

The Call of the Wild by Jack London

The background consists of layered mountains in varying shades of blue and gray, giving a sense of depth and wilderness. In the foreground, there is a silhouette of a howling wolf. Within the wolf's silhouette, a dense forest is depicted, creating a layered effect that merges the wolf with its natural habitat.

At the top of the cover, the title "The Call of the Wild" is written in large, bold, black letters. "The Call" is placed on the first line, and "of the Wild" is on the second line. Below the title, in smaller text, the author's name "Jack London" is written in black. Underneath the author's name, in a smaller font, it says "Reader's Library Classics."

The overall color scheme is cool and calming, using shades of blue, gray, and black to evoke the wild, untamed nature of the story's setting.
