Discover all the different support the RNIB Technology for Life service can offer blind and partially sighted people, to help you make the most of technology.
RNIB offers a large range of technology support to open up technology to everyone.
- RNIB's Technology for Life team from our Living With Sight Loss service can help with all kinds of requests including information, advice and guidance over the phone, over email or with a volunteer. with a If you would like to contact us for help with technology, please call us on 0303 123 9999, email [email protected] or fill out our online technology support request form.
- We offer a variety of means of support, including group and one-to-one training, technology help in the home and community education.
- RNIB’s Technology for Life team work alongside many others to ensure technology support is available for blind and partially sighted people across the UK; we support, encourage and enable local and national partners, professionals, and the community to deliver technology support around the country.
- Whether you’re just starting out or want to build on your technology skills, our Focus on Technology course is for you. This free, informal course will introduce you to the world of accessible technology and give you the confidence to start using technology on a day-to-day basis and build on any existing knowledge you already have. - RNIB also produces a podcast and radio show for blind and partially sighted people interested in accessible technology called RNIB tech talk.
- Our technology guide is a beginner’s introduction to mobiles, smartphones, computers, tablets, eBooks and getting online for anyone living with sight loss. It also has brief explanations about accessibility features. Our friendly team can provide information and support you with:
- Using accessibility software such as JAWS and ZoomText
- Suitable apps for your smartphone or tablet
- Product information
- Other assistive technology that could be relevant to you
Our helpful volunteers can support you with:
- Setting up smartphones
- Demonstrating the features of a tablet, iPad, smartphone or eReader
- Setting up Skype or other Digital applications
- Making the most of the internet and the different online tools
- Setting up and using social media accounts
We aim to respond to a customer request with a call or visit within seven days. Where a volunteer is unavailable, or has not accepted the request this could take up to 21 days. During this time our team will contact the customer to keep them up to date.
Advice you can trust
Our Advisers receive specialist training on topics related to living with sight loss, and many have personal experience of sight loss themselves.
Advisers are accredited with the Advice Quality Standard, an independent accreditation for organisations giving advice to the general public.
