#BeforeYouAsk
RNIB is committed to its vision of a world where there are no barriers for people with sight loss. To do this, we have made changing public perceptions and behaviours a key priority. #BeforeYouAsk sets out to educate the public about the realities of living with sight loss and asks people to see sight loss differently and help us reverse inaccurate perceptions that create unintentional barriers for blind and partially sighted people. The more people who support us and unite behind our mission, the more we can change society for the better.
There are too many misconceptions around sight loss which lead to ignorance and confusion. We are taking this chance to answer the most common questions, however daft they might seem, to help more people understand the reality of sight loss.
Hear directly from our #BeforeYouAsk actors answering common questions about sight loss
We asked blind and partially sighted people to send us their own frequently asked questions and how they typically answer them. Their insights informed our new campaign #BeforeYouAsk.
In a series of short films, posters and an interactive video chat, blind and partially sighted people will banish the misconceptions surrounding sight loss.
In this campaign
How much do you know about living with sight loss?
More than two million people are blind or partially sighted in the UK, so we all should know more. Test your knowledge and take our quiz.
Watch our series of conversational videos
To challenge what people thought they knew about sight loss, we have filmed a series of relaxed “on the sofa” conversations giving perspectives of people with sight loss and those with sight on a common interest or profession.
Our Be Helpful Guide
Almost nine out of 10 blind and partially sighted people may need some help to make an unfamiliar journey, so it’s really important that everyone knows how to offer their support.
See the person campaign
We want people to see sight loss differently, so through RNIB’s biggest-ever advertising campaign, we are showing people how they can support us with their actions.
