About our magazines

We have an extensive choice of magazines catering for a variety of customers. Our magazines are a great and inexpensive way of keeping up to date. We cover topics ranging from music, current affairs and celebrity gossip to education, employment and vocational support. Our magazines are available in a range of accessible formats – please check each magazine for full details.

We always welcome feedback from our readers. If you have any suggestions, or you would like to send a letter, or submit an article for publication in one of our magazines, please contact RNIB's Editorial Department.

Unless otherwise stated, all magazines are available to order through RNIB Customer Services.

We also include useful links of other organisations that produce magazines for people with sight problems and those with other disabilities.

Different formats

Braille magazines are produced in Grade 2, Standard English braille, unless specified otherwise.

Email and computer disk magazines are sent as both ASCII and HTML text so are accessible on a variety of equipment.

Audio cassette magazines are small compact cassettes and are generally 2-track normal speed and compatible with most cassette players.

Large print magazines are in minimum size 14 point font.

Daisy magazines are supplied on compact disc and can be read using a Daisy player or via Daisy software on your PC.

Audio CD magazines are supplied on standard audio CD and can be read on any standard CD player or Daisy player.

Children

Blast Off!

For boys and girls aged 7-11, Blast Off! takes stories, features, jokes and puzzles from popular children's magazines. With double line spacing to aid reading.

Available monthly in both grades 1 and 2 braille.

Braille at Bedtime

This magazine contains short stories for 7-11 year-olds, and is ideal for children to read themselves or for adults to read aloud to them. With single sided braille to make reading easier.

Available every two months in both grades 1 and 2 braille.

Missy

For girls aged 12-15, containing pop gossip, stories, interviews, horoscopes, true stories, problems and lots more.

This popular health and fitness magazine is packed full of health news, product reviews, alternative therapies and tips on keeping in shape.

New Product Guide

This publication brings you the latest information on accessible products available from RNIB, which are suitable for blind and partially sighted people, and also keeps you fully up-to-date with any news and events that may be of interest.

Published bi-monthly, with an additional Christmas edition in October, and available in braille, on cassette tape, on Daisy audio CD and disk, and by email. You can also read New Product Guide online.

Money Matters

For customers interested in all aspects of personal finance including insurance and investments.

For blind and partially sighted parents and parents-to-be, this magazine features informative articles on all aspects of bringing up a child, from pregnancy to starting school. Articles from readers are actively encouraged.

Access IT

Designed to provide a wide range of computer access technology information, of particular interest to blind and partially sighted people, this magazine features articles for the “novice” and more experienced computer user.

Aphra

A Cosmopolitan-style magazine for women. You will find articles on different cultures, sex, politics and lifestyle, plus readers' letters.

Daisy TV Listings

For those wanting listings information for Freeview or satellite channels, or who prefer an audio format magazine, our Daisy TV Listings are invaluable. This guide provides information for the main terrestrial, and 20 popular satellite and Freeview channels. Produced weekly on Daisy audio CD, the listings can be read using a Daisy Talking Book player or with Daisy player software on a PC.

Big Print

This popular weekly publication, produced in 16-point font or larger, gives you sixteen pages of national and international news, sports, celebrity gossip, puzzle page and more. Ready, Steady, Read

Aimed at adult readers new to braille, this magazine is a stepping stone between completing a braille course and tackling a book. It features gardening, humour, wildlife, celebrities and competitions.

Rhetoric

A literary magazine with reviews of books by both high street publishers and specialist organisations, as well as in-depth critical articles and profiles of leading artists.

A selection of popular fiction. These include sci-fi, romance, thriller and horror fiction. Some stories may contain strong language or items of a sexual nature. Each issue contains a variety of genres.

Infosound

This is a free on-line service offering accessible, impartial and relevant information for those in the UK living with sight loss. Their monthly, fifteen minute briefings cover different topics and occasional features, often with comment from providers of support, advice, help, goods and services. Infosound’s audio material can be played and downloaded from the charity’s website - infosound.org.uk - and it also podcasts everything it produces. For the amateur or professional classical musician, this magazine contains CD reviews, features about music and musicians and lists the latest music publications in braille and on tape. Also contains original material commissioned for the magazine.

This is the professional magazine from the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy. It features news, reports, course information, and a recruitment and advertising section. Contact the University of East London.

New literature on sight problems

New literature on sight problems - read extracts

This magazine keeps researchers and professionals informed about essential news, events and research in the field of sight problems. It features details of new research publications that have been acquired by RNIB covering health care, education, social provision, recreation and leisure, rehabilitation, daily living and literature. The listings include books, articles, government reports and papers, informally published documents, abstracts for key works, useful websites and book reviews. All of the items listed in the publication are available for loan or as photocopies from RNIB Research Library.

At various times of the year, RNIB produces some special one-off publications, particularly around Christmas time.

Shop Window Christmas Guide

Get fired up for the festivities with this seasonal special. You’ll find it bursting with everything from food and drink to consumer tests, gift ideas and other seasonal titbits. Shop Window Christmas Guide is produced in braille and by email, and replaces the November issue of the monthly magazine Shop Window. For classical music lovers, the RNIB’s Proms guide features full concert listings, booking information, interviews and reviews. It is published in two volumes. Volume one contains the information on each concert and volume two contains the articles and indexes.

For all cricket fans, this magazine is a must. It features all the fixtures from County Championships Division One and Two and League Divisions One and Two.

Don’t miss out on your favourite team’s action! All magazines will be delivered direct to your door. Email magazines will be delivered to your email address on the same day as all other formats are despatched.

How to pay

You can choose from the following ways of paying:

1. Direct debits: the simplest and easiest way to pay is to set up a direct debit arrangement with us. This way whenever you make any purchases the payment can automatically be charged to your bank account without the need for you to give us your bank details every time.

2. Credit cards: we accept Visa and Master Card.

4. Cheques and postal orders: these should be made payable to RNIB.
