What is RNIB React?
RNIB React is a talking sign system that enables blind or partially sighted people to be more independent. It helps the person confirm where they are and make choices about where to go next. When linked to real time information signs, it can also help people decide which bus or train they want to catch.
Easy to use
RNIB React is easy to use and really makes a difference to people with sight problems.
"It's the best navigational tool I have come across since tactile paving." Birmingham Council user group member
How does it work?
The system works by using a trigger fob. This fob may be carried in the user's hand, pocket or bag. When switched on, it automatically sets off messages as the user approaches speaker units along their route. Using the trigger fob, they can also get more detailed messages or real time information.
Is RNIB React near me?
RNIB React has been successfully installed in town and city centres around the UK. It is highly effective in train and bus stations and can be linked to Real Time Information boards. It's already in many town and city centres across the UK. Our RNIB React Where can I find it can help you find your nearest system.
How to get RNIB React in your area
We work with a project team within the area. This may include the local authority, access groups, retailers and transport companies.
By having a structure in place for the ownership and funding of the system from an early stage, you will ensure RNIB React continues to be maintained and promoted within the area.
Find out more by calling us on 01733 37 53 45 or emailing busdev@rnib.org.uk. Or you can visit our case studies to see how other projects have been managed.
Are you a public body?
RNIB React can help public bodies to fulfil disability equality duty responsibilities. This legal duty requires all public bodies to actively look at ways of ensuring that disabled people are treated equally. By installing RNIB React you will help to make your town or city more open for people who would otherwise have trouble with getting around due to sight loss.
