Supporting job seekers

This page is for the benefit of employment professionals supporting blind and partially sighted people into work. If you are an employer looking to take on a blind or partially sighted person, please go to our Employing a blind or partially sighted person section.

Partnership underpins the delivery of all RNIB's activities. We work with numerous organisations at a national, regional and local level from the public, private and third sectors, successfully addressing a range of key areas across service delivery, policy development and campaigning.

We all share one thing in common; a passion and commitment to work together to make a real difference to the lives of blind and partially sighted people, through the provision of tailored, employment solutions.

To achieve this, each partnership is underpinned by an agreement which enables us to build a framework for operating to the highest standards. RNIB are members of Employment Related Services Association (ERSA).

RNIB is keen to establish further partnerships, where all concerned can support blind and partially sighted people into employment, or assist them in retaining their job.

If you are interested in working with us for the first time, please email employmentservices@rnib.org.uk or call Sean Owen, UK Employment Services Manager, on 0121 665 4209.

Employment assessment toolkit

We have produced a toolkit for employment professionals who work with blind and partially sighted people looking for work. The Employment assessment toolkit will help professionals to gain a clear understanding of what a person's aspirations and abilities are in relation to employment, and what types of support and development are needed to help fulfil these.

Pre-employment programme

We have developed a manual for trainers to deliver a structured training programme for blind and partially sighted people requiring the development of skills to move closer to the labour market. For more information see our Pre-employment programme section.

Job search toolkit

We have designed a Job search toolkit which aims to enable blind and partially sighted people to develop a variety of skills to help them get into work. It will be of use to employment professionals to help people identify their personal strengths and weaknesses whilst enhancing skills.

ENABLER project

ENABLER is a three year research project which seeks to improve the employment opportunities of blind and partially sighted job seekers. The project is developing an assessment toolkit which will be used to give a rapid indication of just how close, or far, each customer is to being ready for work. The project will also be testing a range of innovative support options for people furthest from the labour market.

Find out more at the ENABLER project page.

Professional development

We have put together a page which brings together standards and accreditation that may be of use to employment professionals working with blind and partially sighted clients.
