There are some really useful support networks available to education professionals working with children and young people with visual impairment including those with complex needs. These networks help to bring professionals together from a variety of settings to share effective practice, professional development, networking and peer support.
Education Network Directory
Our
education network directory lists special interest groups, networks and support groups aimed at professionals working within the education sector across the UK. Use the left hand navigation to navigate by region and find groups and networks in your local area.
If you know of a group which has not been included, please let us know by emailing
cypf@rnib.org.uk.
VITAL Network
VITAL (Visual Impairment Touches All Learning) is a network of professionals working with children with complex needs and visual impairment. VITAL is facilitated by RNIB but is mainly comprised of teaching and associated professionals working in schools, services, early years and health settings.

VI Forum
VI FORUM is a very active UK-based discussion group run in partnership with the Department for Education (DfE). This web-based forum is a great place for discussing issues relating to the teaching of learners with visual impairment, providing an opportunity for teachers and other educational practitioners to discuss issues, share resources and provide practical advice and information to colleagues across the UK.
Braille Network
RNIB also runs a Braille network which meets twice a year in London and Leeds. This groups meets to discuss issues related to braille teaching and has included Braille literacy as well as subject specific braille teaching.
Complex Needs Forum
You can discuss key issues with other professionals on RNIB's complex needs education discussion board. This is used by education, therapeutic and health professionals working with children with complex needs and visual impairment. Please note, anyone can read these discussions but to join in or start your own discussion topic you will need to register with the RNIB website.
Professional Development Opportunities
We also offer a range of professional development opportunities to encourage good practice in the education and inclusion of children and young people who are blind and partially sighted, including those with complex needs. For more information visit our 'Events, Training and Conferences' section.
