Everything you need to know about watching films in cinemas, on DVD and Blu ray discs if you are blind or partially sighted.

Audio description on films

If you have difficulty following the plot or story line of a film, then you may find that audio description is a service that can assist you.

Audio Description is a free and existing service that can transform the enjoyment of films for people who have difficulty seeing what's happening on the screen. Like a narrator telling a story, an additional commentary describes body language, expressions and movements, making the story clear through sound. Experience clips of AD for yourself.

Cinemas

We can offer advice on how to use audio description in cinemas and which cinemas in the UK have this facility. The cinema page also gives information on a discounted ticket scheme for people with sight loss.

DVD and Blu-ray discs

There are over 500 titles available with audio description today. Our DVD list will advice you on which titles were available with AD until July 2010.

Bollywood Audio Description Project

We undertook this project to meet the specific needs of blind and partially sighted Bollywood film fans in the UK. The year long project, launched in 2008, created awareness about the need for audio description on Hindi languague films. It culminated in the release of world's first audio described Bollywood film, My name is Khan in UK cinemas and subsequently its DVD release. It also became the first foreign language film ever to be audio described in two languages - Hindi and English.
