MANIL 2013 events
Each year, libraries across the country organise activities to promote their services to local blind and partially sighted people during Make a Noise in Libraries Fortnight.
We will be adding events to this page as we receive details of what is happening in libraries around the country.
Barbican Library, City of London
Event details: e-Audio Book Help Day in association with WF Howes.

Barnsley Library
Event details: A day of events, activities and displays, which will be opened by the Mayor of Barnsley, Cllr Ken Richardson, at 10am. Exhibitors will include Enable Barnsley, Central Call, Diabetic Eye Screening Team, Home Delivery Service, Barnsley Blind and Partially Sighted Association, the local Sensory Impairment Team and more!
Come and meet Liam White and his guide dog Irwin at 10.30am for a short talk about life as a guide dog owner. And at 2pm, we will hold a drumming circle.
Action for Blind People will be attending all day with demonstrations of accessible IT. There will also be display of braille materials, audio and large print books, and a Wireless for the Blind. Plus information about local and national societies, groups and organisations that can help you get of books and information.
There will also be an aromatherapist - guess the scent!

Barrow Library, Cumbria
Event details: Free refreshments and media loans during the afternoon. There will be children's choirs from 1.30pm to 2pm, a ceilidh band at 3.45pm and an adult storyteller from 4pm. There will be noisy stories and crafts for children all afternoon. Steven Poole from British Wireless for the Blind will also be available all afternoon giving advice and information about free radios.

Event: An afternoon for visually impaired readers to meet up, find out what is new in libraries and enjoy an interesting and entertaining talk by guest speaker Mark Llewellin. Entitled 'It's a Living', Mark's talk will take you through his diverse career - with plenty of hilarious anecdotes and insider tales. From his childhood in the Cotswolds, through drama college, teaching, broadcasting and working in theatre - via working in a cemetery, being the voice of London Underground and his Coronation Street connections. Loch Leven Community Library, Kinross
Event details: Dundee author Gordon Anthony, who lost his eyesight in 2008, will be speaking about his second novel 'World's End'. This is the first in a series of stories set in the years after the Roman invasion of Britain. The novel has received favourable reviews, and the Historical Novel Society made it their Editor's Choice in February.
