Respite care services at RNIB College

RNIB College Loughborough offers a range of respite care services available to young people with disabilities aged 16 - 25 years.

Our purpose built accommodation provides a safe, enriching environment where young people can relax and enjoy themselves, giving parents/carers the time that they need. This is available throughout 38 weeks of the year and flexible lengths of stay are available, including:

  • Evening activities
  • Overnight stays
  • Short or long term breaks
  • Weekdays or weekends

Support

Young people will always be encouraged to be as independent as possible during their stay however we recognise that some people will always need support. Young people are allocated a dedicated key worker who is available throughout the day and in the evenings to help with taking part in activities, accessing the community, taking medication and with personal care. Key workers can keep in touch with parents/carers and help to organise their son/daughter's stay and plan their care. There is a 24 hours service available with waking night staff around the building throughout the night.

Fun activities

There are a huge range of activities available every day and in the evenings for young people to participate in including, social, sporting, leisure, community, seasonal, creative and fun opportunities. Young people can join in with these activities alongside others their own age, developing confidence, social and independence skills.

Accommodation

The Colleges' halls of residence, known as the Stan Bell Centre, were purpose built to be the home of our residential learners. Young people accessing this accommodation share modern flats and have their own private bedrooms with en-suite bathroom facilities. Staffed 24 hours a day, young people are safe to access some of the many common rooms including a games room, TV lounge, computer suit and garden.
