If you have difficulty following the plot or story line of a production, you may find that audio description is a service that can assist you.
What is AD in theatre?
Audio described theatre performances are available at over one hundred theatres around the country. The description brings alive what is happening on stage for people with sight problems. It describes the action, scenery, facial expressions and costumes.
Venues often offer pre-performance notes and touch tours. These enable you to receive a description of the set or the ability to visit the stage before the performance. They also give details of scenery, props and an opportunity to meet the actors.
Not tried AD? Our audio description pages have examples of what AD is.
What's on in theatre?
'What's on?' brochures should be available in your preferred format on request from your local theatre. They will often have a mailing list you can join for future seasons information.
