We've teamed up with The British Toy & Hobby Association (BTHA) to produce a leaflet on toys and play for children who are blind and partially sighted. This is part of a series of BTHA funded educational literature.

The leaflet provides information on choosing the right toys, creating a play environment, growing through different types of play and top tips for extending your child's play environment.

Buying toys from the RNIB shop

Our Shop has a great range of toys and games suitable for children and parents with sight problems.

Toy libraries

Toy Libraries provide an excellent opportunity to try out toys before spending money on buying them. You can borrow a wide selection of toys, and then swap them for new ones if they lose their novelty value! Contact the National Association to locate your nearest toy library:

Sport

British Blind Sport (BBS) exists to promote and develop sporting opportunities for blind and partially sighted people of all ages. It also co-ordinates Goalball in the United Kingdom. See the website for further details.

Action for blind people runs Actionnaires multi activity clubs for blind and partially sighted children, aged 4-16, providing opportunities for them to develop their fitness and artistic skills, while encouraging self-confidence and social interaction. Other services include providing access to information, Action Activity Weeks, family events, support groups for parents, and help with assistive technology.
