How to give

There are many ways to make a major donation to RNIB.

The generosity and participation of RNIB's major supporters ensure that our facilities and programmes will flourish today and in the future.

Personal donations

The most effective and immediate means of investing in RNIB's programmes is to make a donation by cheque or credit card. Gift Aid and Tax Effective Giving can provide additional benefits to both RNIB and the donor.

Our special events

To encourage and recognise significant giving, we hold a number of special events throughout the year: including our annual Chairman's Dinner, seasonal events and intimate meals. We also hold special galas, supported by our fantastic Gala Committee, which feature performances from guests such as Rod Stewart and Sir Cliff Richard.

We are also pleased to arrange tours of RNIB sites around the country for donors to see their support in action.

If you are considering making a significant gift and are interested in joining us at a special event or visiting one of our services, please contact Julie Newall, Major Donor Fundraising Manager at julie.newall@rnib.org.uk or on 020 7391 2182.

Share giving

Making a gift of shares can allow some supporters to give more generously because of the higher tax relief available.

John Hewett, Chief Executive of Smedvig Capital and a supporter of RNIB since 2001 explains the benefits of share giving.

Tax Effective donations

There are a number of ways in which donations can be made tax efficiently. An outright gift of assets, for example, can allow the donor to claim relief on Capital Gains Tax. Such gifts may also be free of inheritance tax.

For further information on Gift Aid and Tax Efficient Giving, please email Julie Newall at julie.newall@rnib.org.uk or call her on 020 7391 2182.

Gift Aid

All UK Tax Payers can increase the value of their donations made through a personal cheque or personal credit card by at least 25 per cent, at no personal cost, by allowing RNIB to claim Gift Aid.

Supporters must declare that the amount of income and/or capital gains tax they pay is at least equivalent to the amount reclaimed by RNIB.

A single Gift Aid declaration can apply to all donations you have made in the last four years and to all future donations. Higher rate taxpayers can reclaim from HMRC the difference between the higher rate and the basic rate of tax paid on their donation.

Please contact the Major Donor Fundraising Team for further information.
