Maxine Turkington was diagnosed with Stargardts dystrophy in her mid forties. Over the years the condition has progressed and she no longer has any central vision. She is an incredibly positive and active lady who has not let her sight loss hold her back. She volunteers for RNIB and has chosen to leave us a gift in her Will.
"RNIB have been so good to me"
"RNIB have been so good to me, they have been instrumental in introducing me to some wonderful ways to spend my time and they produce a vast array of products to help people like me remain independent.
I now use reading aids, magnifiers, scanners and I love RNIB's Talking Books, which allow me to listen to books whilst I'm doing jobs I hate, like ironing or washing dishes. It's a wonderful service to have. I also have computer software which speaks to me and I am trying to learn to use the computer more. So really what losing my sight did for me was spur me on to try different things and learn things that I would not have learned otherwise.
RNIB are so informative, their people work together to help and supply so many vital services. They have so much to offer and the people I have dealt with have been marvellous without exception.
Remembering RNIB
So I felt the least I could do would be to be able to leave them a comparatively small sum of money in my Will to help them continue their work into the future…its large to me but I always say that if I get lucky as the years go on I will increase it because I think that it's a wonderful service for people to have. Anything that somebody needs seems to be covered, either directly or indirectly though RNIB and that's one of the many reasons I think that what they do is absolutely superb."
Legacies left to us don't have to be worth millions. Every penny has the power to make a huge difference to someone's life. During Remember a Charity Week, please give some thought to leaving us a gift in your Will.
