Lesley-Anne Alexander CBE, Chief Executive of RNIB, said:
"We are delighted that Dame Gail has joined us as our new President, the first female President and only the ninth in RNIB's history. Dame Gail has a wealth of experience in the charitable world and this, coupled with her boundless energy and enthusiasm, makes it extremely exciting for us to have her as our new President."
Dame Gail Ronson DBE added:
"It is a huge honour to have been invited to be RNIB's President as well as a substantial responsibility. For over 30 years, I have been involved in charitable activities in the social welfare sector and I have been a supporter of RNIB for over a decade. My grandmother had sight loss because of macular degeneration and I know only too well how invaluable it is to be able to access the right advice and support. I have visited some of RNIB's amazing centres and seen the life changing work they do. I am delighted to be part of this incredible organisation whose roots go back over 140 years."
Dame Gail recently joined HRH The Princess Royal at the official opening of the RNIB Pears Centre for Specialist Learning in Coventry and plans many other ways to show her support.
