Planning your journey

Planning your journey in advance will help to make your journey go smoothly. Travel operators should be able to give you essential information about bus stop and train station locations, facilities and platform numbers. But there are also many other ways to plan your journey, depending on the type of transport you are using.

Rail

National Rail enquiries can provide you with information about your train journey over the phone and on the internet. Call 08457 48 49 50 or visit the National Rail website.

Transport for London's website has a journey planner, which has been designed so that people using screen reader software such as JAWS can use it easily. There are also live bus and train departure boards which can be checked on the internet or from your mobile phone.

Transport for Greater Manchester

RNIB have worked with Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) to produce a travel guide for blind and partially sighted people in Greater Manchester. The guide provides basic travel information, including alternative ways of purchasing a tram ticket, the location of help points at tram stops, details of the Greater Manchester concessionary travel scheme and details of community transport services.
